About ME

When Dr. Elvia Espino walks into a room, she quickly commands your attention.  Not because of the shiny red bottoms on her feet but rather by the words she speaks. Her determination is fueled with her desire to empower others.  She definitely fits the phrase “Super Woman.” Espino’s appetite for success and determination came from being labeled at risk by a school system and growing up to a single mother in a community that lacked access.  Since then, she has worked tirelessly professionally and personally to diminish the “us and “them” mentality within various professional and community sectors.  Determined not be a product of her environment she set her sights on not only having a dream but living the dream.

Espino’s career started on a very untraditional path, but eventually lead her to fulfill her life-long dream of working in television. Her first job in the field of communications was with KXLN-TV, Houston’s Univision affiliate. For more than a decade Espino has served in the fields of media relations, PR, and community engagement.  Throughout her career, Espino has leant her voice to several cause driven missions.

In early 2016, Espino set out to be a disruptive change agent by running for mayor of Irving. She was the first Latina candidate in the city’s history to run for that office. In her words, “I got tired of being tired, so I set out to be the change I wanted to see in my community.”
